‘Bowie x Sukita Speed of Life’ at Paul Smith, Tokyo
25th August – 30th September 2012.
Paul Smith’s SPACE gallery in Tokyo will exhibit a selection of photographs of Bowie taken by relentlessly dedicated photographer, Masayoshi Sukita.
‘Bowie x Sukita Speed of Life’ has been published in 2000 volumes to commemorate the 40 years that Sukita has been photographing David Bowie. Sukita first met the rock icon in 1972 in Japan when he was pretty much anonymous – Sukita did not even know the name of the Ziggy Stardust star-to-be. The photos start from the moment they met and will appear in chronological order to form a narrative of Bowie’s life and music career. Live performances are captured along with shots showing the varied landscapes of Kyoto, Sukita all the while managing to capture Bowie’s incredulous sense of freedom.
Paul Smith SPACE will sell the limited edition books throughout the exhibition which are priced at ¥ 63,000 (tax included) as well as autographed photos of David Bowie.
This is a book that promises a fantastic peak in to the life of one of the world’s most popular rock legends, all at the hand of the talented Masayoshi Sukita.
See below for a look at how the book came together as well as details of the show at Paul Smith SPACE.
