David La Chapelle to exhibit in RWA show
It’s completely justified and hugely appropriate that David La Chapelle should be exhibiting in a group exhibition at the RWA (Royal West of England Academy) in Bristol, where the theme and title of the show is ‘Unnatural – Natural History.’ The show, running from 13th July to 23rd September will focus on science’s intervention with nature and the environmental pressure that science, surgery and the impact that all things supremely not organic have had on nature… naturally La Chapelle was a perfect choice for presenting such ideas.
La Chapelle’s photographic works, which include icons of excess such as Lady Gaga, Pamela Anderson and Courtney Love, are a vision of excess in everything – beauty, money, fame, greed, power, narcissism and more. Below you’ll find a reminder of what to expect, in his true fantastical, aphrodisiac-inducing style, but not before we leave you with this controversial comment of his, which like much of his work must have raised a sea of eyebrows: ‘If God was a photographer he’d still be second best!”
