Stop and Stare… Marina Abramović

‘Marina Abramović: The Artist is Present’ is one of the most sensual, absorbing, intense films Beautiful Crime has seen in a long while, so we’re delighted to announce that the DVD is now available for pre-order. It will be released by Dogwoof Films on 3rd September 2012.

The documentary showcases Abramović’s 40-year career in the run-up to her solo exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art, New York, in 2010. It charts her relationships, her mentoring of the young artists trusted to re-create her most famous pieces, and the three months Abramovic spent sitting on a wooden chair in MoMa, opposite a constant flow of visitors eager to literally sit and stare at her. Dedication to the cause, eh.

And before you watch it, note that ‘the hardest thing is to do something which is close to nothing.’

‘The Artist is Present’ is also being shown at locations around England between now and the beginning of November; check here for screenings for all the dates and locations. And if you hurry you can see the film at Tate’s new exhibition space The Tanks on 29th August – check here for tickets before they go.
