‘The Other Sun’ Jacob Hashimoto

29th June – 28th August 2012.

In collaboration with Studio la Città, Jacob Hashimoto defies gravity in his latest London show with a variety of handcrafted paper kites, rice paper, bamboo rods, fishing line and Japanese papers, which take over the interior of the Ronchini Gallery. Neither painting nor sculpture, says the artist of his work, though perhaps something in between, Hashimoto’s works, both in colour and monochrome serve to create a feeling of lightness en masse. Offering the viewer an otherworldly interactive experience, the installation honours hypnotism and allows visitors to lose themselves amidst its circle-heavy foliage.

Hashimoto draws from his Japanese heritage, whilst interrogating the relationship between sculpture and painting via a tapestry of suspended kites and papers. He lives and works in New York.
